Peterborough Songwriter Teams with J.P. Cormier for Intimate, Story-Driven Debut

PETERBOROUGH, ON – Canadian country-folk artist Joanna Bronson introduces herself with quiet confidence and emotional clarity on two new singles, “Highway 28” and “Norwood,” out now. The tracks mark the first chapter of her forthcoming debut album Highway 28, arriving March 2026 — a deeply personal collection shaped by memory, distance, and the roads that define who we become.

Recorded just outside Halifax with East Coast legend J.P. Cormier, the album captures Bronson at her most honest. A longtime musical hero to Bronson, Cormier produced the record, played all additional instruments, and handled mixing and mastering — carefully building a sonic landscape around songs that began exactly as they were written: voice, guitar, and lived experience.

“At its core, this record is a love letter to my hometown,” Bronson reflects. “Every song started with something real — a feeling, a conversation, or a moment that actually happened.”

The title track “Highway 28” is a reflective meditation on acceptance and the quiet wondering of what might have been. It carries both nostalgia and healing — the emotional space that only time can create. “Norwood,” meanwhile, leans into vulnerability from a different angle, exploring what it means to cautiously let love back in after loss. Together, the songs paint a small-town landscape where love lingers in the air and memories refuse to fade.

The recording process itself became a milestone. “Hearing J.P. sing harmony on Norwood for the first time was a moment I’m not sure I’ll ever top,” Bronson shares. The organic approach — Bronson laying down her vocals and guitar while Cormier layered instrumentation around her — resulted in a record that feels warm, intimate, and emotionally unguarded. Nothing overproduced. Nothing forced. Just story and song.

Over the past three years, Bronson has sharpened her craft performing alongside her father, entertainer Danny Bronson, connecting with audiences at local venues, jamborees, and events including the Millbrook Fall Festival. Appearances on YourTV’s Making Music and The Skinny have further spotlighted her growing presence in Ontario’s roots scene.

Beyond its sonic warmth, Highway 28 carries meaningful representation. Bronson draws from her lived experience and relationships, bringing authentic LGBTQ+ perspective into country-folk storytelling — not as a statement, but as lived truth woven naturally into her work. Her songwriting feels universal in its emotional resonance while remaining deeply personal and grounded.

With Highway 28 set for release in March 2026, Bronson is emerging as a compelling new voice in Canadian country-folk — one equally at home on small stages and festival lineups. These first two singles signal an artist committed to honesty over hype, connection over spectacle.

Sometimes the most powerful songs aren’t shouted. They’re simply told — and felt. “Highway 28” and “Norwood” are available now on all streaming platforms.
