Canada Black Music Archives Hosts Black History Month Showcase

TORONTO, ON — The Canada Black Music Archives (CBMA) returns to Toronto this February with a series of Black History Month events celebrating Black Canadian music, culture, and legacy. Presented by Word Media Group Inc., with support from TD Bank Group through the TD Ready Commitment and the Department of Canadian Heritage, the programming brings together music, conversation, exhibitions, and film throughout the month.

The Toronto Showcase offers a full day of programming rooted in Black Canadian excellence.
Daytime Program (12:00 PM – 2:00 PM)
Acclaimed chef, musician, and cultural ambassador Roger Mooking joins CBMA co-founder Phil Vassell for an in-depth conversation exploring storytelling, legacy, and the importance of preserving Black music history in Canada.
Evening Showcase (5:00 PM – 9:00 PM)
The evening features live performances from some of Canada’s most influential Black artists, including:

• Liberty Silver

The CBMA has been invited to present a specially curated exhibit within the Music Room of the Lieutenant Governor’s Suite, featuring installations from the CBMA, the Archives of Ontario, and Black Diasporas.

The opening includes remarks from the Lieutenant Governor, cultural partners, and poetry from Matthew Testament Jones, with live music at noon (artist to be announced).
