CFMA Nominee Irish Millie Releases New Single “Wasted”

TORONTO, ON — Canadian Folk Music Award–nominated fiddler, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Irish Millie continues her rapid rise in the Canadian roots scene with the release of her new single “WASTED.” The track appears on her acclaimed EP Between Then and Now and marks a significant artistic step for the 19-year-old artist.
Millie enters this release as a seven-time Canadian Folk Music Award nominee, including 2026 nominations for Young Performer of the Year and Single of the Year for her song “You Were There.” She was also nominated in 2025 for Folk Music Ontario’s Performing Artist of the Year and earned multiple CFMA nods for her album GRACE.
Written during her first year away from home after moving from Peterborough to Toronto for university, “WASTED” reflects on independence, gratitude, and the emotional distance that comes with growing up. The song explores the realization that the people who raised us remain our strongest foundation, even as life pulls us forward.
Musically, “WASTED” expands Millie’s sound beyond traditional folk, incorporating piano, synth, and drums alongside her signature fiddle. The track was recorded and co-produced in Toronto with Aaron Tsang, and features guitar work by her father, Murray Shadgett, reinforcing the song’s themes of family and connection.
Currently studying Music Industry and Technology at the University of Toronto, Millie balances academics with an international performance schedule and has played for crowds exceeding 10,000. She has received praise from Celtic music icons Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy for her fresh, contemporary approach to the genre.
