Holly Cole’s New Album “Dark Moon” Debuts At #1 In Canada
SoundScan #1 Jazz Album in Canada | #1 iTunes Jazz
Toronto, ON – Canadian jazz icon Holly Cole has once again captivated audiences with her latest release, Dark Moon, which debuted at #1 on the SoundScan and iTunes Jazz Charts in Canada. Released on January 24, 2025, via Rumpus Room/Universal Music Canada, the album showcases Cole’s signature smoky vocals, smart arrangements, and a fresh take on beloved jazz, pop, and country standards.
A SPONTANEOUS, ENSEMBLE-DRIVEN MASTERPIECE
For her 13th studio album, Holly Cole embraced a raw, organic approach, recording with minimal rehearsal to capture the spontaneous magic of her band’s first impressions.
“I really wanted this album to embrace the spirit of spontaneity. The musicians I play with contribute greatly to the arranging of the songs, and many of the arrangements fell together as we played them. What we end up hearing on this record is the moment when we discover what we love about the song, and what its essence is for me.” – Holly Cole
Dark Moon features an all-star ensemble, including longtime collaborators Aaron Davis (piano), George Koller (bass), Davide Direnzo (drums), and John Johnson (saxophone). The album also boasts contributions from guitar virtuoso Kevin Breit, two-time Grammy-winning harmonica player Howard Levy (Flecktones), and the stunning harmonies of The Good Lovelies, adding richness and depth to the project.
FEATURED SINGLE: “NO MOON AT ALL”
The album’s first featured single, “No Moon At All”, is an up-tempo, sultry take on the Peggy Lee classic, showcasing an electrifying harmonica solo by Howard Levy. The track encapsulates the album’s sexy, sophisticated energy, reaffirming Holly Cole’s place at the forefront of jazz innovation.
