Reflective, Raw, and Real
“Rearview” sets the tone for the forthcoming Soul Food II album—an evolution of the duo’s storytelling-driven concept series. Layered over smooth, melancholic production by Conor Fitzgerald and Theevoni Theevoni, the track captures a reflective energy: driving forward while looking back.
“We made ‘Rearview’ in one take,” says Sad Classes. “It’s almost exactly what came out in that moment—raw, honest, and real.”
Shot by acclaimed director Fatty Soprano, the official music video visually mirrors the track’s themes of escape and clarity.
Healing Through Hip-Hop
For both Kid DET and Sad Classes, music started as therapy.
-
Kid DET began writing at 12 as a way to manage anxiety: “Music gave me relief and helped me make sense of what I was feeling.”
-
Sad Classes used music to escape a turbulent environment: “Where I’m from, hip-hop wasn’t just expression—it was survival.”
Despite their contrasting backgrounds, they found common ground in high school—ironically the same one Drake attended. That friendship led to Soul Food, a multi-volume concept album series exploring identity, struggle, and growth.
The Sound of Soul Food II: At The Cabin
The upcoming project is split into two parts:
-
Side A – High-energy tracks made for movement and momentum
-
Side B – Deep, emotional cuts like “Rearview,” focused on reflection and personal growth
Produced by the duo under Finest Edge Music Inc., the new work blends melodic rap, alternative R&B, and cinematic storytelling—showcasing their range as both artists and producers.
“We wanted to make something that feels like freedom,” says Kid DET. “A song you can drive to, think to, and feel with.”
