Vancouver vocal duo deliver a soulful anthem of resilience

VANCOUVER, BC  – Vancouver singer-songwriter Reid Jamieson has released a new single titled “Blue Jeans,” alongside longtime creative partner Carolyn Victoria Mill (CVM). The song is available now on all major streaming platforms.

The track arrives as a rare co-write for the duo. In addition to Jamieson and Mill, American folk artist Johnny Irion contributed to the songwriting. Irion is known for his work with US Elevator and collaborations with artists including Sarah Lee Guthrie.

Together, the trio created a lush and groove-driven song that explores resilience during difficult times.

A song about shared struggles

“Blue Jeans” unfolds as a slow-building anthem about perseverance and solidarity.

According to Jamieson and Mill, the song reflects the emotional weight many people have carried in recent years. From the pandemic to political division and global conflict, the world has faced many challenges. As a result, the song speaks to anyone who has struggled quietly and needed reassurance that they are not alone.

“Sometimes you don’t need solutions,” the duo explains. “You just need to know that you are not alone.”

The result is a track that feels both warm and cathartic. Its upbeat groove contrasts with reflective lyrics, creating a balance between vulnerability and hope.

A collaboration years in the making

The origins of “Blue Jeans” date back to 2013, when Jamieson and Mill met Johnny Irion at the Vancouver Folk Festival.

The artists quickly bonded over their shared love of 1960s folk rock and vocal harmony traditions.

Later, Irion sent the duo a short melody fragment and a memorable lyric idea:

“Must have cried the blues right out of my jeans.”

That single line became the emotional centre of the song.

Jamieson expanded the melody while CVM shaped the lyrics. Together, they developed a song that captures the familiar feeling of long-carried emotional weight.

Jamieson sings in one of the verses:

“The pain I’m in, my oldest friend / Like a second skin, so worn in.”

Despite the heavy themes, the song ultimately leans toward comfort and connection.

Two decades of music together

Known professionally as Reid Jamieson & CVM, the duo has spent more than two decades building one of Canada’s most distinctive independent catalogues.

Their work has earned several notable honours. They won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and placed first in the Vancouver Folk Festival’s Pickin’ a Folk Star competition.

The pair are widely admired for their tight vocal harmonies and shared lead vocals, as well as their ability to explore complex human themes in intimate arrangements.

Jamieson also gained national attention as a regular performer on CBC Radio’s Vinyl Café. Host Stuart McLean once praised him by saying he “stole the show” and “blew me away.”

Over the years, Jamieson has also collaborated with artists connected to Cowboy Junkies, Blue Rodeo, and the Be Good Tanyas, along with vocalist Mary Margaret O’Hara.

A creative period for the duo

“Blue Jeans” arrives during an especially productive period for Jamieson and Mill.

Their album Me Daza, recorded in Ireland with producer Kieran Kennedy, received strong praise from Folk Roots Radio, which called it “brilliant” and “the best thing Reid has done in his career so far.”

More recently, the duo created the folk opera The Pigeon & The Dove, which explores themes of housing insecurity through storytelling and music.

The production won the Social Impact Award at the Vancouver Fringe Festival in 2023.

Jamieson and Mill are now recording a full album based on the opera’s original songs. That project is expected to arrive in late 2026.
